Active Hastings to Host Free Age Friendly Activity Taster Day

Active Hastings has announced that its Age Friendly Activity Taster Day will take place in Hastings this October.

As part of East Sussex County Council’s Full of Life Festival, Active Hastings will host a free Activity Taster Day on Wednesday 21 October, from 12 noon to 4.30pm, at Summerfields Leisure Centre.

The free taster day is designed to give local people the opportunity to come together, try out new activities, whilst having a chat and enjoying free tea and coffee. Various activities will be available, including but not limited to; racket sports, walking football and netball, chair-based exercise, pickleball and Qigong. No experience is necessary; everyone is very welcome. Throughout the day you can enjoy a free cuppa and meet Jas, the Active Hastings GP Link Worker, Janet, Hastings Borough Council’s Age Friendly Communities Coordinator, and local organisations supporting healthy ageing in your community.

You can book in advance at eequ.org/experience/34533 or simply pop along on the day. Registration starts from 12noon and activities will start from 12.30pm.

Cath Donovan, Physical Activity and Health Strategic Lead at Active Hastings said

“Whether you're interested in having a go at one of the activities on offer or enjoying a free cuppa and a chat there is something for everyone. We hope by holding the taster day at the local sports centre it will help introduce the leisure centre to residents who may not have visited before, as well as welcoming regular visitors.”

Councillor Glenn Haffenden, leader of the council and lead councillor for sport and leisure, said:

“We are delighted to bring the Active Hastings Taster Day to our local leisure centre and look forward to welcoming people from across the town. The Active Hastings Age Friendly Taster Day is a great opportunity for people to come together, meet new people and hear about what’s on in their town. As well as trying their hand at new activities which have been designed to help people age well.”
