Residents are benefiting from cleaner streets following the introduction of additional street-cleansing staff across Hastings.
After listening to residents’ concerns about street cleansing, Hastings Borough Council has introduced extra barrow routes to tackle litter and other debris in local neighbourhoods.
The enhanced service is already delivering results. In just over a month, more than 530 bags of litter and waste have been collected across four new routes.
In Bohemia Road, 200 bags of litter and waste have been cleared. Despite ongoing challenges with regularly dumped rubbish and fly-tipping, the council has worked hard to keep the area clean. Local residents have already highlighted the noticeable difference being made.
Priory Road has also seen a significant transformation, with 160 bags collected. The road’s cleanliness has been improved considerably, and it continues to be maintained to a high standard.
71 bags of litter have been collected from the west side of London Road, helping to improve the local environment and maintain cleaner streets for residents.
Meanwhile, Queens Road has benefited from the removal of 99 bags of litter and other waste. The improvement to this busy town centre route has been noticeable, with residents commenting on the positive difference in the area's appearance.
Cllr Becca Horn, lead councillor for community safety and environmental services, said:
We're pleased to see such a difference being made in such a short space of time, and it's been great to receive positive feedback about our barrow-hands from residents who've noticed their streets looking cleaner. We'd like to thank our team as well as the many fantastic volunteers who litter-pick across our town. Their hard work and commitment is really helping keep Hastings tidy.
